![]() The brass fittings and iron hand guard are very pretty.Brass is shiny/polished. The blade has a very nice shine to it (not dull looking). The wrap is very tight like it should be. There are no indentations or imperfections on the blade or handle. No chips or stains on anything, All of the fittings are tight. The Sword and Scabbard are both Flawless and beautiful. Okay, This is my first real sword so I'm a noob at all this stuff. ![]() ![]() You need also to consider your built type before buying this, a larger person might find a beautiful handling in this blade with a bit of practice, but a normal sized or smaller body type will find it extremely difficult to have a satisfactory outcome with this blade, if you consider yourself to be in those two body type, please make sure to have serious training before buying one of those for actual cutting or practising.įor the collectors out there. It require a lot of experience with a blade and some serious practice to be able to use it correctly and safely, as such, I wouldn't recommend to someone who has no experience wielding a normal katana. In conclusion, I would recommend this O-katana to every serious practitioner of a serious size who feel like the normal katana is just too tiny for them. Haven't yet tried against Bamboo sticks or normal cutting targets, but I'm pretty confident to say that the outcome will be satisfactory. The cuts are impressive and clean, it cut in paper like a thousand $ blade out of the sharpening workshop. The length of it is also to not take too lightly, it has a serious reach upgrade if you're used to a 27 to 29" katana. Tsuka and kashira are rust-free ( they are iron if I am not mistaken ) and if I may add, beautiful.Īs for the general feeling of the blade, it is obviously heavy compared to a normal Katana. The menuki ( ormament ) are where they are supposed to be and solid in place. The Ito wrap around the tsuka is tight as a vir. ![]() The blade is tight in the saya, it doesn't come out without us calling for it. This is also a No-hi Model, resembling a lot the blades from Cold Steel. The hamon is slightly visible, it has a shadow design, so at first glace you'd think the blade has none. Barely visible and sure isn't a reason enough to complain. there's is one visible "scratch" on the saya near the open end, I failed to identifies if it was a intended design pattern or a real scratch as it does not completely do the whole circumference ( but almost). Bits of wood particles were loose in the saya that stuck on the blade, but after a bit of cleaning it was perfect. No visible scratches on the blade, it was very well covered in museum wax. The sword came sharp ( the box it came in agree ) and straight, in perfect condition. No lose piece at unboxing, nor after a intensive drill with it. The sageo has a nice "intertwines" design and is just as pictured. First impression was marvellous, the sword feel heavy ( what I was looking for ). The blade is hand forged and folded Swedish powder steel with Hi in a traditional Shinogi Zukuri style. The sword came in a timely fashion, well packaged and protected in two boxes, came with a black exterior and white interior sword bag. The blackened iron Tsuba depicts Asano's followers on their vengeful march. Our Ronin Koshirae Katana captures the spirit of Lord Asano's 47 Ronin. They are buried together at the Sengakuji, offering a true testament to the loyalty inherent in the Samurai. For their actions the Ronin were themselves sentenced to death by seppuku. After a fierce battle, the Ronin demanded that Kira commit seppuku for his transgressions against their former master. On December 14, 1702, nearly one year after Asano's death, 47 of Asano's men (now Ronin), descended upon the mansion of Kira to exact their revenge. ![]() This act led to Asano's ordered suicide (seppuku) and the confiscation of his property. No longer able to contain himself, Asano drew his sword upon Kira, wounding him in the attack. Lord Asano and Kira quickly grew to dislike each other and the teacher insulted his student at every opportunity. The highest ranking master of protocol, Kira, was given the task of teaching Asano, among others, proper matters of etiquette in this task. Lord Asano was a powerful Daimyo ordered by the Shogun to entertain guests of the Imperial Family. The Story of the 47 Ronin Katana is one of the most celebrated and influential tales of the Samurai from the Edo period. ![]()
